Cookie Policy
A complete inventory of every cookie and localStorage item set by ChinookLake, why it exists, and how to manage your preferences.

1. What Are Cookies?
Cookies are small text files that a website stores on your browser or device when you visit. They are widely used to make websites function correctly, to remember user preferences, and to provide information about how a site is used. ChinookLake uses a combination of browser cookies and the Web Storage API (localStorage) to deliver a consistent and functional experience across visits.
Unlike many commercial websites, ChinookLake does not use advertising cookies, tracking pixels from social networks, or affiliate-tracking cookies of any kind. We use only the cookies necessary to operate the platform safely and to understand aggregate usage patterns through privacy-respecting analytics.
2. localStorage Items Set by ChinookLake
The following localStorage keys are set directly by our platform code (not by third parties):
| Key | Purpose | Expiry | Category |
|---|---|---|---|
gp_age_ok |
Stores your confirmation that you are 18 or older so the age-gate overlay is not shown on every page load during the same browser session. | Until manually cleared (persistent localStorage) | Strictly Necessary |
gp_ck_ok |
Records that you have acknowledged the cookie notice banner so it does not reappear on every page. | Until manually cleared (persistent localStorage) | Strictly Necessary |
These two items contain only the values "1" (confirmed) or are absent (not confirmed). They contain no personal information and cannot be read by third parties. They are required for the platform to function as intended — without them, the age gate reappears on every page navigation, which would make the platform unusable for confirmed adult users.
3. Third-Party Cookies (Google Analytics)
When you accept cookies using our banner, we load Google Analytics 4 to collect anonymised usage statistics. Google Analytics sets the following cookies:
| Cookie Name | Purpose | Expiry | Category |
|---|---|---|---|
_ga | Distinguishes unique visitors (anonymised). Used to calculate aggregate session and user statistics. | 2 years | Analytics |
_ga_XXXXXXXXXX | Persists the Google Analytics session state for GA4 measurement ID. | 2 years | Analytics |
_gid | Distinguishes users across a 24-hour window for session grouping. | 24 hours | Analytics |
_gat | Throttles request rate to Google Analytics to prevent excessive calls. | 1 minute | Analytics (technical) |
All Google Analytics data is collected with IP anonymisation enabled. We have configured our Google Analytics property to avoid collecting personally identifiable information. Data collected through these cookies is subject to Google's privacy policy at policies.google.com/privacy.
We use Google Analytics exclusively to understand aggregate usage patterns — which pages are visited, how long sessions last, which devices are used — so we can improve the platform. We do not use analytics data for advertising targeting or profiling.
4. Google Fonts
We load web fonts (Russo One and Roboto) from Google Fonts. When your browser requests these fonts, it sends your IP address and user-agent string to Google's servers. Google Fonts does not set cookies and does not build user profiles for advertising. Google states that Fonts API requests do not result in any data being shared with Google Analytics or ad networks. See developers.google.com/fonts/faq/privacy for details.
5. Cloudflare
Our platform is served through Cloudflare's content delivery and security network. Cloudflare may set a cookie named __cf_bm (expiry: 30 minutes) to manage bot detection at the network edge. This cookie does not track individual users across websites and is considered a strictly necessary security measure. More information: Cloudflare Cookies documentation.
6. No Advertising Cookies
ChinookLake does not use advertising cookies of any kind. We do not run Google Ads, Facebook Pixel, Twitter Ads, TikTok Pixel, programmatic display advertising, or any other form of paid advertising network. As a result, none of the cookies or trackers associated with those services are present on this website. We do not use remarketing lists, lookalike audience tools, or cross-site tracking for advertising purposes.
7. How to Manage Your Cookie Preferences
You can manage cookies through several mechanisms:
- Browser settings: All modern browsers allow you to view, block, or delete cookies. Instructions for common browsers: Chrome, Firefox, Safari.
- Clearing localStorage: You can clear our localStorage items by opening your browser's Developer Tools (F12), navigating to Application > Storage > localStorage, and deleting the
gp_age_okandgp_ck_okkeys. - Google Analytics opt-out: You can opt out of Google Analytics tracking across all websites by installing the Google Analytics Opt-out Browser Add-on.
- Our cookie banner: When you first visit ChinookLake, the cookie notice banner allows you to accept analytics cookies or click "Preferences" (which takes you to this page). Choosing "Preferences" sets only the strictly necessary localStorage items and does not activate Google Analytics.
Please note that blocking or deleting strictly necessary localStorage items (gp_age_ok and gp_ck_ok) will cause the age gate and cookie banner to reappear on each page load. This does not affect your ability to use the platform, but it may affect your experience.
8. Changes to This Policy
We will update this Cookie Policy whenever we add, remove, or change the cookies and storage items we use. The "Last updated" date at the top of this document reflects the most recent revision. We encourage you to review this policy periodically, particularly if you are a regular visitor. Changes take effect on the date stated.
